Kelsey Monique BRINKERT

May 9, 1992 - June 18, 2013

Our Beautiful and Brave “Kelseysita” went home into the loving arms of her Lord surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 18, 2013.

Kelsey was born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive, degenerative, neuromuscular disease and was one of only 3 girls in Canada with this diagnosis.

She lived all of her 21 years with a fierce spirit and determination. Her eyes and smile revealed her kind, soft, and gentle soul. Kelsey loved family, family gatherings, all dogs (in particular her companion dog, Lexi), shopping at Mayfair Mall, good food, and all things pink and purple.

Kelsey touched many many people and was loved by many more! She had a very large and awesome support community that was involved in her life. We would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and therapists in Victoria and Vancouver who were a part of her care team including: Canuck Place, Mimi House, Queen Alexandra Centre for Children, and RJH ICU. We are also very thankful for the school community and staff at Pacific Christian School, and her church family from Christ Community Church and Victoria Christian Reformed Church for all their support over the years.

She leaves behind her parents Glenn and Linda, older sister Karlene, and her fiance Simar, younger brother Grant, grandparents Hans and Lien Brinkert and Ross and Mary Ferguson, many uncles and aunts, many cousins and second cousins, close friends, and special care workers.

We invite all to celebrate her life next Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 1:00 p.m., at Victoria Christian Reformed Church on 661 Agnes Street, Victoria, BC. If it is possible, our wish is that you wear something pink or purple in honour of Kelsey. Her family requests donations to Canuck Place Childrens Hospice or the Victoria SPCA in lieu of flowers.https://www.canuckplace.org/make_a_donation/ or https://www.spca.bc.ca/branches/victoria/support/

Kelsey’s life verse:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
