Staniewicz, Janina Kristina(Filo) January 22, 1924 January 6, 2016. It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Janina the morning of January 6, 2016 at the Priory in Victoria after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Predeceased by her loving husband Michael, she is survived by her children Edward, John (Patricia, Corey), Richard. Born in Zakopane, Poland in the Tatra Mountains and orphaned in her youth she suffered with her countrymen the ravages and forced servitude of the war. She was abducted to Regensburg, Germany and survived allied bombing raids while working as a nanny there. Starting a new life in Canada, getting married to Michael and bearing 3 sons. She was a caring, nurturing mother always thinking of others first. For many years Janina worked as a nanny in Roxboro and was loved dearly by those families. She loved children immensely. She was a gifted singer with an incredible voice and belonged to two choirs in Victoria and also in Roxboro. She loved music and could often be heard singing throughout her household. The Priory staff often commented how nice it was to hear her sing and how it brought a ray of sunshine and joy to their very challenging work environment. A Mass will be offered for Janina at “Our Lady of Rosary Church” Langford, B.C., on February 28th, 2016 at 10:30 am. Her Funeral Mass will be held in Montreal(Roxboro) during the summer 2016, to be announced at a later date. Burial to be held at “The Field of Honour” in Pointe Claire with her beloved and courageous husband Michael, a WWII veteran. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. The family expresses great appreciation to the cargivers at The Priory Hospital for their exceptional care of Janina for so many years. We will miss you Janina. |
