Their paths crossed in 1952 while both were seeking adventure in Nigeria, Pam having arrived from England and Oscar from Switzerland. As a married couple with one small child they later emigrated to Ontario where Sarah was soon born. Rarely in the mood for vacations, they both enjoyed teaching careers and summers working tirelessly on a variety of weekend properties until retiring to VIctoria, BC. in 1991. Once here, they built the house of their dreams with a magnificent ocean view, which they were able to enjoy for many years. Pam treasured every day, having been certain that she would not survive the war, and took great care her entire life to ensure that nothing went to waste. Oscar meanwhile focused on how things could work better and found a practical use for everything he touched, including many items which were well beyond their intended life. In every way they were tremendous role models for their children and grandchildren, and for Emma’s un-trainable dog Daisy, all of whom in turn gave them ample reasons to carry on. We will forever miss their smiling faces and sensible outlook – they both live on in each of us. OUr sincere thanks to Dr. Jong, Dr. Cuddeford, and Dr. Cuthbert for their untiring support, and to the caring and compassionate staff of The Priory (Pamela) and The victoria Hospice (Oscar) who were able to keep them each comfortable to the end. At their request, no services have been held. Donations in their memory may be made to Women In Need (Pam) or to The Victoria Hospice (Oscar). |
