Kathleen Siu Gar CHAN (Koo)

We are sad to announce that Kathleen Siu Gar Chan passed away on November 26, 2023 of pancreatic cancer at the age of 83. She is predeceased by her husband, Daniel Che Gee, and is survived by her sons, Victor and Timothy (Sarah) and her brothers Tennyson (Grace), Stone (Hermia), and Siu Chung (Yuen Yin).

Kathleen was born on December 12, 1939 in Maoming, Guangdong province in China, and moved with her family to Hong Kong in 1949. After marrying Daniel in 1963, she emigrated to Canada in 1965 with him and Timothy. In Vancouver and then Victoria, Kathleen worked various jobs including being a seamstress and housekeeper before settling into a long career as a cook at Clovelly Terrace Hospital in Saanich. She spent time in her later years volunteering for the Chinese Presbyterian Church, notably providing baked goodies for the congregation. Kathleen was a loving wife, mother, and friend — she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, staff, and volunteers at the Victoria Hospice for their compassion and for making Kathleen’s last days as comfortable as possible. You are all wonderful.

A service for Kathleen will be held on Saturday, December 2, at 1:30pm at the public chapel at Royal Oak Burial Park, with a reception to follow. All family and friends are welcome.
