Alan Victor BECK

July 23, 1926 - November 12, 2025

At 99, Alan died peacefully with Leslie, his wife of 45 years, by his side. Also survived by sons Barry (Brenda) and Adam (Isabella), grandchildren Hilary (Dave), David (Selah), Caroline and Alissa, great grandson, Theo, ex-wife Barbara (Gary), many nephews and nieces and their families in Canada, the US and England. Predeceased by three brothers and 4 sisters.

Born in London, England, into a family of theatre entertainers, Alan was a gregarious chap who regaled all with British Wit in stories of his life in the family circus, and with the British Merchant Navy both in convoy during WWII and travels around the world. One of those merchant travels brought him to Vancouver (New Westminster) in 1947. Struck by the beauty, he decided this is the place he wanted to live. He immigrated to Canada (Ontario) in around 1957. By the mid 1960s he traveled with his wife and sons to Vancouver, then Victoria in 1973.

A lover of all things nautical with equal interest in aircraft, watches, music (all genres), rugby, Formula 1, politics (!!) and life in general, he remained a member of the boating world throughout the years on his own pleasure crafts in local Southern BC waters as well as on commercial cruises further afield. An avid reader, as witnessed by the magazines and books around the house, made him able to converse on a myriad of topics both philosophical and general. A good cook, all will miss his lamb curry and taste in good wines, pale ale and Guiness. Family members will miss his “directives” on how to proceed with their lives.

A life fully lived with a twinkle in his eye.

Thanks and appreciation go to the staff at Saanich Peninsula Community Hospital for their compassion and kindness.
