Robert Gutenberg Clifford

May 2, 2026

It is with profound sadness that I announce the sudden passing of Robert Clifford Gutenberg on
May 2, 2026 at the age of 65, following a brief illness. Robert was born in Kelowna, BC on
September 20th, 1960, the second son of Peter and Elizabeth Gutenberg. Robert grew up in
Westbank and attended Okanagan College before transferring to UBC where he graduated in
1984 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Metallurgical Engineering. Robert met the love of his
life Linda (née Metzner) while studying at UBC and they married in May 1987. Robert and Linda
were blessed with two children, Sarah and Brian, and together they enjoyed camping and the
outdoors around British Columbia. Robert and Linda moved back to Victoria in 2020 to be near
to family and to set themselves up for retirement. Over the past several years they have shared
their time between Victoria and Arizona. Robert loved road trips and looked forward each year
to the drive to Arizona and exploring the history of the areas around Wellton. Ever the history
buff, Robert and Brian shared their love for stories from WW1 and WW2, and loved to admire
aircrafts. Robert and Brian enjoyed exploring the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, AZ
where they could see the planes from a very close vantage point. Robert will be sadly missed by
his wife, Linda (née Metzner) his children Sarah and Brian Gutenberg, his brother and sister-in-
law Ken and Ramona (née Moroshkin), his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Chuck and Allison
Metzner (née Russell) his sisters-in-law Mandy Metzner and Michele Metzner, nieces and
nephews Mark Gutenberg, Brenton Metzner, Paige Metzner and Shaudee Lavoie (née Jones)
and great nieces and nephews Jackson, Wrenly, Hudson, Miela and Mateo. In lieu of flowers,
donations to the SPCA would be greatly appreciated.
