Gordon Lorne HOYLE

April 24, 1946 - September 21, 2026

Gordon Lorne Hoyle passed away peacefully at 80 years of age. He survived many medical complications and challenges that originated from a workplace injury 60 years ago. His remarkable longevity was a testament to his humble nature, quiet way of life, and unyielding resilience.

Gord is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Billie; his two children, Gord (Tamara) and Terrie (Wade); his four grandchildren, Rian, Rowe, Jackson, and Mack; his sister, Betty (Wayne); his many nieces and nephews; and his dearest friend, Tim (Louise).

He was predeceased by his parents, Beatrice and Hugh Hoyle; as well as his siblings and their spouses, Dorothy (Irvin), Ken (Evelyn), Hugh (Barbara), and most recently, his eldest brother, Ross (Jean).

Gordie was born in Edmonton and was the youngest in his family of six children. He wasn’t much of a fan of school, but his love of cars was evident early. He left high school to pursue a machinist apprenticeship, which eventually led to a job with the CNR, where he worked to support his young family.

His skill, determination, and natural talent as a tradesman soon opened doors to opportunities around the world. He first worked in Iran as a heavy-duty mechanic for an international oil company, where he quickly developed a reputation for keeping oil rigs running safely and efficiently. That reputation would lead to work in countries around the world, including Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Syria, and Venezuela.

Gordie was a gifted tradesman. He could fix just about anything, and if he didn’t know how to do something, he had an innate ability to figure things out. Friends and family will always remember him for his remarkable mechanical ability and, of course, for the many cool cars he owned, worked on, and restored throughout his life.

He married his beloved wife, Billie, in 1998, and they shared a simple life where he enjoyed gardening, doing crossword puzzles, and being entertained by their many cats and the family dog, Zeeder. The family credits Billie’s devotion for his longevity and is grateful for the bonus years that we all received as a result of her care. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the dozens of doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other medical professionals who were involved in his care over the years.

We are deeply grateful for their dedication and for the many times their interventions helped Gord through critical moments and gave him more time with the people who loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
