March 15, 1941 - October 1, 2023 |
Evelyn Rose Williams was born March 15, 1941, to Connie and Owen Hanrahan. She was delivered by a midwife in Haddock, Alberta. Evelyn was the fifth child of thirteen. She was an Irish/ English teacup. Although petite, she was a force and a real firecracker. She had three major health crises in the past five and half years finally passing quietly in her sleep October 1st, 2023. Evelyn lived life on her terms, both during her 82 years and in her final hours. She was tired and that was it. Her last words to us were “Go home, I am in good hands!” “We kissed her goodbye and said we loved her “said her daughters Patricia and Sherry. She met and married Morris Patrick Williams who was the love of her life November 16, 1957. They met while she was working at the family store. They married and Patricia Rose soon followed in April of 1958, followed by Blaine in 1959, Sherry in 1960, Lance in 1963, Mark 1965, Dan 1967. Morris and Evelyn loved their family. They raised their children in the Shining Bank Lake, Alberta area and remained there until Morris’s passing in 1997. The Williams family owned and operated a service station, café, antique shop, a picker truck business, and a farm. Evelyn always was busy with her family, sewing clothes, making crafts, and attending craft sales. After Morris passed, Evelyn then moved to Edson where she worked as a head housekeeper for The Foxwood, the Super 8, as well as devoting her free time to her flower gardens and her arts and crafts. She moved to Sidney, BC in 2014 where her son Lance was working and her daughters Patricia and Sherry lived, where she remained until she passed. After retiring, Evelyn spent her last several years honing her stained-glass art, attending art shows, creating numerous crafts and hand sewing dolls, which she finished a month or so before she left us. Our Mom was so detail oriented and her person and home reflected that. No signs of clutter or chaos, anywhere, even raising six children, our clothes were folded like they came out of a package, socks, pure white, and a properly set table. It is hard to describe the million things that made her unique. A friend was quoted as saying “Evelyn had perfectly coiffed hair, she was kind, but her silence spoke louder than words.” Her daughter Sherry said “Our mother taught us how to see beauty in everything, from a well-kept home, to a stunning garden, to her beautifully hand crafted artworks.” She was an artist, but never wanted the limelight or fanfare. She was enormously private. She loved fiercely those she called her own. If she called you a friend, know that was a real privilege. She spoke fondly of dear friends Colleen, Imee, Darlene, Cheryl and Greta and her numerous family members with whom she stayed in touch. Evelyn will be missed by her friends and family, and all who’s lives she touched.
