I only got to know Tony a few years ago when he became my neighbour and friend. I loved his British wit, his kindness and genuine stubbornness. He reminded me daily of my British mother, who is equally as stubborn and determined to do everything for herself and (it turns out) is pretty much the same age. He would never tell me his age saying he was anywhere between 80 and 95 and it didn't really matter if he could still drive. I will miss his curiosity, his conversation, his blue sporty Subaru pulling into the driveway, his quiet and intelligent demeanour and inquisitive mind. Many condolences to that big tribe of his.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the Hughes family for the loss of Tony. Tony and Keith were school friends at Watford College in England which began a lifelong friendship. First n England which then continued in Canada. Tony met the Wigzells when they arrived in Toronto in 1967. and helped us settle into Canada. We spent many holidays together when the children were growing up and eventually both families settled in Western Canada. Tony has been a true and loyal friend oven the years and godparent to the Wigzell children. Rest in peace Tony. You are remembered with love for a life well lived. Stella, Simon and Mark

I first met Tony & Finella when they returned to England with 2 little girls, Laura & Sally. In a very short while we became friends. Tony was very much the gentleman and had a very dry wit, both of which lasted him all his life. The only other time I met Tony was at Bonnie & Tyler's wedding when we all more or less picked up from alot of years previously. Needless to say my thoughts are with you all

I was a teenager when I first met Tony, when he was courting my sister and I realised back then what a kind and witty person he was. In the intervening years I spoke to him on the phone many times but only managed five visits to Canada. He never changed, he remained a gentleman to the end, and the world will be a sorrier place without him. I shall miss him. Goodbye Tony, and thanks for the memories. John (and Chris)

My Uncle Tony A wonderful gentleman, who always had a smile & glint in his eye with a wicked sense of wit, an honour and a privilege to have known & and to catch up with him this last few years in Canada. You can take the guy out of Britain , but never can take the Britain out of the guy. Thank you, for being you. Sure to be missed . Gary & Paula Hampshire UK
