I was lucky enough to have Mr. DeVries as a teacher at Notre Dame, in Newmarket, Ontario. He was firm but fair, and he enthralled us with his stories. I never forgot him. RIP.

Our Dearest sister in law & aunt 'Reen, cousins Nicolette, Johan, Elise, Mario, Veronica, Joseph, Francoise and families. Our hearts have been shattered by the loss of our dear brother to Ramona Stain [Mona de Vries] and uncle to Colleen, Leslie, Glynnis and families. We have loads of memories - camping, mountain climbing, sing-a-longs with uncle Bas playing piano, scrabble evenings, home movie nights, road trips in the yellow Plymouth [?], birthday gatherings - memories to hang on to and put a smile on our faces, amidst the sadness. RIP uncle Bas, please give our love to our dad, Ken Stain - up there playing his guitar and mouth organ waiting for you to join in on the piano. loads of love and hugs to all family and friends around the globe, from Mona and family xxoo

The Herman family expresses our deepest sympathy, Basil!s friendship and ours went back many, many years...and two continents. His selfless contribution in education, his zest and passion he brought to the struggle against Apartheid..were lauditory and made a difference. May he rest in peace.
