Share your Memorial with Family & Friends
Deborah Ann Furlong, 65, of Sooke, British Columbia, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 15, 2025, surrounded by family.
Deborah was born in Kimberley, British Columbia, to William Archibald (February 1927 – February 2024) and Margaret McAuley (August 23, 1930 – October 10, 1983). She was predeceased by her stepdaughter, Colleen, from a previous marriage.
Deborah is survived by her loving husband, Al Furlong, and by her daughters—Laura Haverko, Tanya Gray, Donna (Ben) Ryan, and Candace (Daryl) Greenwood—whom she loved equally and without distinction, never labelling them as anything other than her daughters. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to Arabella, Aleria, Amelia, Casey, Caleb, Ember, Mariska, and Caley.
She is also lovingly remembered by her brother, Norm (predeceased by his wife, Darcy); her sisters, Linda (Ed) and Ruth; her many nieces and nephews; and a large, blended extended family, all of whom loved her dearly and were an important part of her journey.
Deborah devoted much of her life to caring for animals, working at local veterinary clinics and with the Alberta SPCA. Her compassion for those without a voice reflected her deep love for both animals and the Lord.
Guided by her faith, Deborah took a graduate course in Homiletics and wholeheartedly pursued her calling to serve. She dedicated herself to preaching, teaching, and sharing God’s love in meaningful and inclusive ways as an Elder at Knox Sooke. Reverend Cleland of Sooke Church described Deborah’s spiritual journey as incredible—fearless, bold, and deeply inspiring. She had been preparing to lead her first service post course on December 28, 2025.
Known affectionately as Deb to many, Deborah’s kindness, faith, courage, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
