Share your Memorial with Family & Friends
Derek is predeceased by his first wife Freda and is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife Sharon of 22 years; children Ann, Richard and Jennifer; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, along with many other family and friends. I would like all out friends and family know that Derek’s wishes are being carried out as he and I discussed. Together we made these plans before events took over, and we both ended up in hospital. Due to Covid, there will be no in Church Service. Our Anglican Church Community and Priest have been very helpful and supportive during this difficult time. Derek is going to be buried at sea by the Canadian Navy with a very nice ceremony commemorating his time serving in the British Navy during WWII. Derek was a recipient of the Burma Star and was part of a small group here in Victoria. He also received the French Legion of Honor Medal for, “his part in freeing France” during WWII. The Canadian Navy made him honorary Captain of the HMCS Ottawa a few years ago, which meant a lot to him. Derek was also very proud to have been a Mason for 60 years, enjoying their brotherhood and they as well are giving him a respectful ceremony. Derek was a proud Canadian and loved spending time with each and ever one of you. His life was full of his love for long haired Dachshunds, camping, fishing and spending time with friends and family. Our time together was filled with many many good times and he has left me with precious memories. Again, thank you for your sympathy, prayers, kindness and support at his difficult time. It means more to me than I can say.
