It is with a great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Dorothea Violet Waters Ward Evans, who left us peacefully on June 20th at the age of 100, with family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John, her daughter Heather and her son Robert.
She leaves behind her brother Lyn (Audrey), her sons Malcolm (Cindy), Daniel (Shelly), and Timothy (Machin), her daughter Sheila (Mark), daughter-in-law Jennifer, 25 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, all who have held a special place in her heart.
Dorothea was born in Washwood Heath, England on October 2nd, 1924. She served as a missionary for her church at the age of 17 and trained as a nurse during WWII. She married the love of her life, John Malcolm Evans, in 1947 and they immigrated to Canada in 1948. In 1967 they moved their family from Calgary, Alberta to North Saanich, British Columbia where Dorothea continued nursing. She was the owner/operator of Pinehaven Resthome in North Saanich in the 1970’s and lived in the North Saanich and Sidney areas until her passing.
Dorothea led a long life of service — to her family, her friends, and her church, where she graciously gave her time and shared her many talents and her love of God. She leaves behind a legacy of the importance of family, faith and charity and will also be remembered for her strong work ethic, dedication and resiliency. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and many others that have been fortunate to call her ‘Mom’.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the caregivers and staff of the Shoal Centre Assisted Living and the Resthaven Lodge in Sidney, B.C., for the care and support provided to our mother in her last few years with us.
A celebration of life will be held on July 11th, 2025, at 6:00PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2210 Eastleigh Way, Sidney, B.C.
