Ellen was born Ladybank, Fife Scotland and passed peacefully in her sleeps at Luther Court Victoria BC.
She will be missed by her daughter Elaine, sons Graham, (Orawan), Gordon (Thip) and granddaughter Katrina.
Ellen was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Clyde, her parents James and Florence Bell, sisters Bunty, Flo, and infant twin sister Christine, brother Graham, son-in-law Sven, her cousin Cathy (Scotland), and nephew Roger (N.Z.).
Mom met her handsome husband to be during W.W.II. She was serving in the British WRENS and he in the Canadian Navy. She arrived in Canada as a war bride in 1946. Ellen was a resident of Munro St. in Esquimalt for over 62 years.
In Britain Ellen worked for a railway, then as a supply assistant in the WRENS. In Victoria she worked at Town and Country Carlton Cleaners, The Hudson’s Bay Marks and Spencers and retired as manager of Fabric Land.
Ellen enjoyed curling, baking, travel and summers at the Shawnigan Lake cabin. In later years she liked to walk to Buxton Green, and sit on a bench and chat to passers-by and pet all the dogs. She also liked parties and a wee nip of scotch.
She was known as quite a character with a wicked sense of humour, a twinkle in her eye and a heart of gold. We will miss her dearly.
Many thanks to Dr. Paul Nerah and the staff of Luther Court for your care of Ellen.
In lieu of flowers please give to a charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Elaine’s on June 20th, from 2:00 – 4:00PM.
