Gary Paul LEWIS

April 1, 1941 - June 14, 2013

Share your Memorial with Family & Friends

Gary left us too soon, at home in Sooke. He will be greatly missed by his wife Cyndy Mason. He also leaves behind two sons, Sean and Sedge; his sister Treva Cunningham (Vic Balla), his father-in-law, Bob (Bea) Mason and brother-in-law Greg (April) Mason. He will be missed by his nephews (Darren, Kevin, Chris, Greg, Taylor and Brody) and his niece (Cassidy), who remember exploits of slug stomping, hissing beetles, mucking about in the creek, and fishing with Uncle Gary. Missing Gary are his black labs, Kas and Stel; and Calico cat, Smudge.

Gary was born in Vancouver, raised in Victoria, and spent time in the Air Force. He later became a welder and metal fabricator, working in mills and mines across the province, with breaks to work as a sport fishing guide. Eventually the lure of the Island became too much, and he and Cyndy moved to Sooke. Gary spent the last part of his career working at DND.

Gary developed his love of the outdoors in Scouts, and was happiest when fishing, hiking, hunting, camping or messing about in boats. His real passion was fly fishing, and all things related; he kept us all supplied with flies, built several rods, and caught (and released!) many, many fish.

No service at Gary’s request. In Gary’s memory, please do something to enjoy and protect the outdoors he loved so much.
