October 21, 1930 – June 9, 2013. Joan passed away peacefully on a sunny Sunday morning at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, with family by her side. Born in Toronto, she was the only child of Gerald and Elsie Morris. Joan moved with her parents to Victoria when she was a teenager, where she later met and married John Callan in 1956. From that time on she dedicated much of her life to making a loving home for her husband, children, elderly parents, often also taking friends and neighbours under her kindly care when needed. She was a talented artist, creating among other things a number of lovely oil paintings which grace the family home. Predeceased by her parents and an infant daughter Anne, she leaves many fond memories with her husband John, daughter Brenda (Jim), son David (Beth), grandson, Andrew, and granddaughter Maura.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Laura Kavanagh at Knox Presbyterian Church, 2964 Richmond Rd, Victoria, Thursday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. Many thanks to the home care workers and especially Joan’s companion Simone, who have enabled Joan to stay at home this past year despite her declining health.
