Jonathan (Joe) D PYKE

March 21, 1955 - October 24, 2016

Share your Memorial with Family & Friends

Joe loved his children Joanna and Harry, and his granddaughter, Bridget, deeply. One of his many claims was not to be perfect. Joe is survived and will be missed by his children and grandchild, and his cherished Kate Flanagan who was his love and anchor, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his mother Lorna Pyke, Father Richard (Mike) Pyke, sister Kathleen Harkness-Lait and brother Richard Pyke.

Joe will perhaps be known as the founder and publisher of The Boat Journal and Nor’westing magazines from the early 80’s to 2001. Despite his English accent, Joe was born in Calgary, Alberta. He lived in England for 14 years and finally made it back to Canada in May, 1980, the day Mt. St. Helens erupted. He should know because he was flying by it when the pilot pointed it out. During his 12 year retirement Joe took up golf with very little success notwithstanding the friendships he relished.

As he takes his last voyage, Joe would like to urge the reader to take the time to have many happy adventures during their lifetime.

Many thanks to Dr. Wetzer, the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Cancer Agency, and home care.

A service will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society and Victoria Hospice.
