It’s with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our Mom, who passed away peacefully at the age of 85 in Victoria.

Born in Montreal, she and her husband, John, shared 48 years of marriage filled with love, friendship, and adventure before he passed in 2008. Over their lifetime, Maureen and John made their home in Montreal, Calgary, Victoria, Chemainus, and Nanaimo. She leaves behind her children, Mike (Michelle), Karen (Rick), Heather (Mike), and Mark (Laila), as well as 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Maureen will be remembered for her mischievous sense of humour and straight forward practical nature. Maureen was a warm and social person who enjoyed connecting with others. Her interests included activities like camping, traveling and lawn bowling as well as playing cards and games. She was always on a lucky streak! She also had a talent for quilting, creating beautiful pieces her family will treasure forever.

Alzheimer’s may have slowly taken her independence, but it never took away who she was at her core. Maureen bore the burden of requiring full time care with dignity and grace. We are grateful for the care she received at Selkirk Place, as well as the extra one on one time provided by kind companions in recent years.

We’ll miss her deeply, but we’re grateful for the love and joy she brought into our lives. Rest easy, Mom. You’ll always be in our hearts.

A celebration of Maureen’s life is being planned for this Spring.
