I just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear of your son and brother's passing. I only knew him from the lab when he would come in, but he was someone that we all felt was a special person.

Our most sincere sympathy on the loss of your beloved son and brother. His love of life and enthusiasm were taken much too soon. I remember him as the wonderful red haired boy in elementary school who smiled much, played hard and had many friends. Obviously his personality carried through to adulthood. He fought a tremendous fight. God must have big plans for his new angel. Love to all.

When I first met Nick and his basso profondo in our British History class at UVic I actually thought, "Who is this guy?" Once we discovered our mutual love of the Sens, sports in general, food and beer, we quickly became friends. I remember hoping and waiting anxiously for him to be posted to Esquimalt and being ecstatic when it finally happened. There are many memories I will hold onto of Nick. One in particular was game 5 of the Ottawa-Pittsburgh series in 2010 which we watched at the now-defunct Podium on Yates (a favourite hangout). When Matt Carkner scored the game-winner in triple-OT, that was easily the hardest high-five I've ever experienced in my life; my hand was numb for at least 20 minutes after that. Nick's passion for life, his love of and dedication to family and friends, his willingness to give to others, his way of giving 110% to everything he did, and his perseverence in the face of insurmountable odds will always be an inspiration to me.

Eric, Cathy and Lindsay. I am so very sorry for your loss. Words cannot express my sincere condolences for all of you. I know how proud you were of Nick and all of his accomplishments. The loss of a son or daughter is something a parent should not have to cope with. Try to take strength in Nick's successes and his courage in facing this dreadful disease. My thoughts and prayers have been with you every day since I heard about Nick. It was so good to talk with you Eric and I will be there with you in spirit over the next difficult days. Love Bing.
