Rose born July 6, 1923 in (Courtenay) and passed away December 5, 2014 in Duncan. Mom pre-deceased by husbands Ross Lanyon (1952) and Bill Atkinson (1990) , son Fred Atkinson (1997) and step son Ray Lanyon (2013). Survived by brothers Bert (Doris) of White Rock, Ern (Claire) of Duncan, children Fran Lanyon (Dave Gardner), Richard Lanyon (Lynn), Bill Lanyon (Dawn), Trish Lanyon (Ron Gardner), Steve Atkinson (Janet), Lyall Atkinson (Rone), Allan Atkinson, and step sons Dennis Atkinson (Verna), Bruce Atkinson (Marion), Bill Atkinson (Julia).

Mom was blessed with 24 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, and still growing. There were also many special friends she treated just like family. Mom was a lady of many talents, baker extraordinaire – Butter Tarts, Mince Meat (my favourite), Lemon Meringue Tarts and Pies, Pecan Fingers, Sausage Rolls, Mistakes (there’s a story here) and more. An avid and tireless talented knitter and crocheter. It’s believed mom had knitted baby blankets and or afghans for all grand, great, great great grandchildren and numerous other family and friends. Other items made by mom were slippers, socks, sweaters, Cowichan sweaters, ponchos, tea cosies, dish cloths, purses (yes purses), table cloths, doilies and more. The family requests you bring your favourite to the memorial service.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday December 13, 2014 at Colwood Pentecostal Church, 2250 Sooke Road, Colwood, BC. With numerous family and friends who may have not seen each other in a while we have arranged for the church hall to be open at 1:00 p.m. Mom was asked at her 90th birthday celebration what your best achievement, her response was, my family. Family and friends were a very important part of her life.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ts”I”ts”uwatul” Lelum assisted living (Duncan), staff at Cowichan District Hospital for their compassionate care for both mom and family during her recent stay and Dr. Blackburn and staff.
