Terre Poppe

October 3, 1949 - May 3, 2016

Share your Memorial with Family & Friends

Terre died peacefully in her home on May 3, 2016.  She retired from the government of British Columbia, Ministry of Children and Family Development in January 2016.   She had just completed a Panama Canal cruise with her sister Becky, something she had dreamed of for years.  Terre is survived by her granddaughter Emily Anderson, her sister Becky Darrow, her brother Dave Poppe (wife Lynne), a nephew Jeff Darrow and niece Grace Poppe.  Terre was born in Iowa on October 3, 1949.   Her mother moved a lot when she was a child, so Terre learned how to make friends in many different environments.  She attended the University of New Mexico, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and the University of Maryland College Park.  She had dual citizenship in Canada and the United States.  Terre loved a colour-filled world.  She loved and supported circles of women who loved and supported her.  To quote a Facebook friend:  “She deeply loved and valued her connections with people and place. She believed in, and practiced, kindness, including the random acts variety. She loves color, and had eyeglasses in, I believe, literally every color, to match whatever mood she was in. I smile when I imagine her getting up in the morning and thinking to herself, “I feel… purple today.” And then dressing in head to toe purple.  I don’t know what happens when we leave here, but I hope she got to spend at least a few moments dancing inside a rainbow.”

Service details will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded to emilyanderson3258@gmail.combdarrow21@comcast.net or davidjpoppe@gmail.com.
