December 21, 1948 - February 18, 2023

A quiet man but he could transport you into his stories.

Daniel (Dan) Bryne, 74, of North Saanich, BC, passed away on Saturday, February 18 th , 2023,
after a brave struggle with cancer and lung disease.

Dan was born on December 21 st, 1948, to Sidney and Helen Bryne in Knutsford, Chester,
England.

Shortly after finishing his studies in England, Dan migrated to Perth, Australia with his family.
In 1970, at the young age of 21, Dan was granted permission to leave Australia.  His father was a
decorated war hero who wanted a different path for his son, even if it meant leaving home for
safer ground. Dan eventually landed in Kamloops, BC.

By 1976, Dan had started his own successful automotive business called D&R Motors. It was in
Kamloops that he met Linda at the Tudor Rose Pub where she was working.  Marriage came soon
after followed by the birth of their two children, Danny & Jenny.

In 1981 the couple with their children moved to Linda’s hometown of Sidney BC.  Dan resumed
work as a mechanic until his 2012 retirement. From there he spent his free time tinkering in his
favorite place, his garage.  With his first grandson alongside since birth, Dan passed on his vast
mechanical expertise to Ethan who will cherish the knowledge and memories forever.

Dan was predeceased by his father, Sidney Bryne.  He is survived by his wife Linda; son Danny
and wife Angie; daughter Jennifer and husband Mark; and beloved grandchildren Ethan, Ella and
Teo; his mother Helen Bryne; and sisters Elaine and Kerry and their families who still reside in
Australia.

Dan was a quiet man; when you were lucky enough to engage him in conversation it was as if
you were transported into his story and his time.  Stories of his past told in such a way that you
were hanging on every word.  True to his nature Dan has requested no funeral be held (he never
was one for a fuss).  His immediate family will gather to say farewell and spread his ashes at sea
where many of his best times were had with his son Danny on their many fishing adventures.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation in memory of Dan.
